I'm new to soldering and picking things up as I go though I definitely understand that at some point I need to go through a proper video or tutorial on the subject. But for now can you get me pointed in the right direction? This is my gun and this is my solder. I thought I would be able to touch the solder with the tip of the gun and it would melt on contact. But the solder does nothing. Then after a few seconds or after I touch it with a broader part of the gun's rod instead of gently melting it will melt all at once.Is there a name for this type of soldering mistake? How can I fix it? I do let the soldering iron heat up for a couple minutes before using it but I do end up wiping off excess solder with a sponge quite often so maybe I'm also cooling the soldering iron down constantly too? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2JV8ys6
