I'm attempting to repair a buried sprinkler pipe that should obviously be 1/2" but is somehow a slightly smaller diameter. It does not want to make a good bonding connection with a coupler and cement because it's too loose. Is it not actually a 1/2" pipe? If I had to guess, the sprinkler system was installed at least 20+ years ago. The pipe is certainly thinner than schedule 40 and is a tad brittle.
