My father has an older Snap-on (Walker) hydraulic floor jack that has seen better days. It is a perfectly functioning, and an exceptional unit but I decided it needed a refresh and hydraulic cleaning and rebuild. We have been restoring his older Wilton USA vises that can no longer be replaced (made in China now), and I decided I would strip this from front to back and restore it to new since there are really no quality USA hydraulic jacks available any longer.Unfortunately, the photo limit for a Reddit post is 20 --- so this is merely the highlights of the most visual aspects of the project. One of the difficulties of this project was the size and weight of the unit. The jack weighed in around 115 pounds, and the body is not designed to be completely disassembled. The lift arm, and the supporting struts are welded in and cannot be removed without having to reweld the unit. I decided I would work around this as best I could, while leaving the entire superstructure intact and only disassemble what could be removed. The other difficulty was that by failing to disassemble the lift arms from the jack it created a dangerous situation where the large heavy cast could fall down, and remove a finger. For this reason, and the amount of dirt and sanded paint involved inside my garage, I did most of this work on the ground outside.Without further ado, enjoy! Would love to hear what you think.Original shape of the jack, prior to a heavy cleaning.Prior to cleaningCleaned and disassembledWire wheeling main casting around lettering, and where older \"warning\" adhesive had hardened to stone.Hand sanding pant for automotive primer.
