Hi all, my mom (52) fell for a social security number scam. She got a fake letter in the mail from PayPal (something about a PayPal Credit account, but she doesn't even have a PayPal account) and called them. She gave them her SSN before I looked up the phone number told her the letter was a scam. She didn't give any other info but her SSN, but I assume they have her name and address since they mailed her the letter.
I read that it is still very serious that she gave out her SSN and told her she should at least freeze her credit. She told me she wouldn't and not to worry about it. She said she's going to check her credit (something along those lines) in about a month or something to see if anything happens.
Am I overreacting by saying she should freeze her credit? She seems to brush it off like nothing happened.
