I’m looking to build a paver patio in a roughly 20x12 area that will run along side my garage for 20ft and come out about 12. I’m wanting half to be covered by a pergola. I live in Illinois so I know the importance of building a deep, strong gravel and sand base. What I’m having trouble determining is the order of operations. I’ve seen some videos and guides on building pergolas but many seem to bracket them to an existing slab. Im thinking it would be best to set the 4 corner posts in the ground and fill with quikrete. So would it be best to: 1) dig out my base of where I want to put the pavers, 2) dig out the 4 corner posts for the pergola, insert and fill with quikrete and build the pergola, 3) level the base again around the corner posts, 4) then add the gravel, sand, and pavers? via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2WQa3to
