I saw a comment on reddit about someone saving money by ordering contacts from Canada. I tried that and they either didn't ship to the US or required a prescription. Found Nextdaylense.com and after my bank first denying the charge was able to order.
I have never ordered from them before, and haven't actually received the lenses yet. So take this with a grain of salt.
I also would encourage people to get their eye's checked, you only get one pair of eyes. But I'm down to 4 pairs and I hate not having at least a 6 month supply on hand.
I also do not have any ophthalmologists within 60 miles in my insurance network. So it's a real bitch to schedule an appointment, or I have to front an uncomfortable amount of money and wait to be reimbursed.
I also need a new pair of glasses so I do plan on going to the doctor. And I will use my insurance to partially cover a new pair of glasses instead of contacts.
