I have no idea if this is the right thread, but I thought I’d try here first.
Hi all, just checked my bank account and got my deposit from the IRS with a statement saying “310”. Looked it up and my deposit was offset by almost $300. I have about $30,700 left in student loans that I started paying last August, have been 3 days late on one payment last month as I was on vacation (my company doesn’t consider it late unless it’s 60+ days late, aka I have no outstanding charges or balance). I’ve also never deferred. My car is in my moms name and she makes the payments on time and in a different state (car payment isn’t even close to the amount that was offset).
When I went to the IRS website they said to contact the company that you have a loan with, but when I contacted my student loan servicing company they found no outside payments and there’s been zero change to my balance.
I’m really confused and quite bummed out as I have a lot going on medically and needed the money to help pay for medication/treatment. Does anyone have any tips as to what I can do? Will I ever get that money back or should I just give it up?
