I’m installing hardwood (5” wide maple) in a small bedroom (12x12). At the room entrance, the house has existing hardwood flooring in the hallway. The last existing plank is ripped, so there is no tongue or groove. The new planks will run parallel with the existing flooring.Since both planks are the same thickness (give or take a few mm) can I just have them butt up against each other (groove to flat side) and glue down the first plank on one side and nail the other side? Or do I need to keep a gap and use a transition piece? I’ll be keeping a 3/4” gap at the opposite wall, but was hoping for a clean joint at the doorway.Everything I search for mentions hardwood to tile or carpet, but I can’t find a clear answer for hardwood to hardwood joints with same thickness.Thank you! via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2Uhmw7M
