I'm sure that this was posted in the past, however, I feel that it is something that doesn't hurt to remind everyone of.

My wife and I recently had a child. After insurance kicked in, we owed the hospital ~$2300. I called the hospital and advised them that I wanted to pay the account in full and questioned if there were any discounts that they were able to offer. After a brief hold, we were approved a "paid in full" discount of 20%. I understand that paying a bill in full is not always able to be done, but if you are in the situation to be able to do so, it pays to ask about a discount.

tl;dr - If you are able to pay a hospital bill in full, call the billing department and request a discount.
