Hi everyone.

Setup: So back in the summer, I got pretty sick from a health condition, and the company I was at had to let go of 20% of their employees. I have no evidence to even suggest this in court, not do I wish to, but me and two other people who were out sick a lot were the 20% who just so happened to be let go from my team. It sucks...but what can you do. Anyways, due to these two unfortunate situations, I had to take some hits and freelance (no one's going to hire someone in my field who would need to work remotely 50% of the time with no notice). I did score some unbelievable freelance projects with huge corporations, but since I'm just starting my career out, I can't ask for higher pay or insurance. I took it as an opportunity tax of sorts to build my resume with great clients.

My SO, in the meantime has been doing great at work and has gotten a few promotions and raises. He now makes double what I make, but doesn't want to adjust our bill proportions. That means I barely scrape by, whereas he has probably saved up $20k during this whole time. At least. And lives very freely splurging thousands on trips, food, and toys.

It's been a little frustrating for me, but I hit a stressful point recently where I thought I was in the red. I thankfully was raised to not have credit card debt, so keep a really close eye on it. Only issue is I'm trying my hardest to SAVE instead of just scrape by. But I cant even afford my own IRA savings, so am actually quite worried for my future.

So here's the breakdown: Was making 75k/year with 401k, insurance, etc included. Now make 70k, but since I have to pay $1000/ month myself towards health insurance and my personal IRA, its more like 58k.

Boyfriend used to make 110k, now makes 125k.

Old 75k 110k

New 58k 125k

Should it be fair that I am held to our original adjusted proportion agreements? I can barely make it every month with our rent and expenses.

We live in LA, CA by the way. Very expensive rent here. Ours is ~2.5k/ month (we were fine at the time to afford it, but now it's difficult for me obviously) and we're stuck in the lease for a few more months.

Let me know your honest opinions. I can handle it. Thank you all!

Edit: rent is honestly more around $3k. I just hate saying it I guess...
