Former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan says 10% rise in stock market contributes to 1% rise in GDP

Honestly, I didn't know GDP is tied to stock market in that way and was really surprised by his comment. How would the price of company stocks affect the GDP rather than the price of the actual products that they produce?
