I have been actively thinking about updating my wardrobe for years. Seriously considering dropping major coin on a personal stylist. Because of this I kept pushing buying a major haul of clothes back and back and back. Until I was down to one pair of jeans without holes in them and 2-3 "nice" shirts.
I'd always only set aside an hour for the thrift store. Focusing on completing a task (as I do with all my other errands) instead of filling my needs. I had a list of things I needed.
I also really wanted to get out of my graphic tees phase. I thought I was going to move away from jeans. But a nice blouse and jeans makes all the difference. Especially if the jeans fit well. I easily tried on twenty jeans. Came out with three that I'm super happy with.
I started with the blouses section. And put anything in the cart that I was even mildly interested in.
And then when I had some pieces I adored. It gave me ideas for things to go with them. I now have this sheer orange "cardigan". That I specifically bought blouses to pair with. And I love the blouses by themselves.
Score!
The biggest thing was giving myself time. I spent 4 hours there, and I needed every single minute. I never let myself be picky. And really think about the fabric on my body.
I also look professional and cute now without breaking the bank. A whole new wardrobe for $114 (love thrift stores).
I feel like I've finally got the look I've been wanting. Without the insane price tag I thought was necessary. I just had to be patient. I also took pictures of almost everything. Especially the stuff I loved but didn't fit. So now I can keep an eye out for them (one was ON, so I'm on the hunt for ON sales).
I don't know if this would help anyone else. But I've felt so hopelessly lost fashion wise for years. Kept going to department stores. And frustrated because I had no variety to experiment with. I blocked the whole day just for this. And I now have a lot more confidence the next time I need to replace clothes (and hopefully I don't have to leave it to the last minute next time).
Here are some of my favorites.
