Hey all! My fiance and I are interested in living a simple life (comparatively to consumerism) in which most of our time and resources are spent on 'doing' as opposed to 'having.' However, we do enjoy the stability of having a consistent place to stay, or at least to return to from travel, or while traveling. We like the idea of having the opportunity to raise a child and we also have a 60lb dog, so while constant travel (like van dwelling) sounds appealing, we aren't sure that would be a feasible long term route for us-- unless we could find a way to do this with our larger family as well as afford it. Of course, purchasing a vehicle that can be altered in an attempt to live in it year-round for several years, and one that is large enough for our family and then finding places to park it and ways to afford gas, is no cheap or easy endeavor.

Since we want to live more frugally and spend most of our time in nature/adventuring/exploring/traveling, we would rather not have to work full-time, as this drastically ends up altering the trajectory of our lives. Ideally, we would live so frugally that we wouldn't have to work at all-- not because we are uninterested in work, but because most 'work' tends to be stationary and requires many hours of dedication and commitment, and because we don't particularly care for the stuff we can buy with the money we make (outside of some form of shelter).

We're wondering if anyone here might have some advice about what kind of homes to live in if we are attempting to lead this kind of lifestyle. Apartments/homes in our area are around $900+ a month minimum, and we can't really purchase a van or tiny home to live out of because those are generally around $50,000 minimum.

Would love some encouragement and suggestions!
