I just received a letter in the mail stating that I owe $50 to a doctor’s office (7/19/18) that I visited in July of 2018. I never saw a bill for this amount and I would have paid a bill immediately had I seen it.

I have record on my HSA debit card that I paid a $40 copay to the office on 7/18/19 but I do not recall further testing that would have cost $50. Is there any way to deal with this supposed debt through the doctor’s office or should I just be paying the debt collection agency? I thought the office was supposed to send me a bill before they sent it along to a debt collector.
