I’m not sure if this is the right place for this, but I have a tale from an unbelievable time in my life.

When I was in high school, my friends and I were in a Dual Credit class that would often let out early before lunch. This made for an extra long lunch period. To make use of our free time, we searched far and wide for places to eat and for coupons to make our meals worthwhile.

Our HS football team had a fundraiser of coupon books for local restaurants/fast food joints. The best one by far was for Which Wich: Buy One Get One Free Sandwich.

We began going to Which Wich on a regular basis, so we signed up for their rewards card. We would always go on Tuesday, which was, coincidently, Double Rewards Points Day.

At the bottom of each receipt, there was a survey to fill out online for a free cookie. After we all did the survey together, we realized the code repeated. And each time we would go use our cookie receipt, they would give us another receipt.

So each visit to Which Wich would land us 2 sandwiches for the price of one, a free cookie (from a previous receipt), and two new receipts (one from sandwich, one from cookie) that we could use later for free cookies. And we were getting double rewards points to use towards free sandwiches.

After a few weeks, we had created what one friend coined a “self-sustaining cookie economy.” The memories of figuring out the system with old HS friends are ones that I will cherish forever.

I hope to find such a deal once more. It’s not the most astounding story of frugality you’ll ever hear, but I hope you can visualize the utter excitement when we realized the system we had created.

Thanks for reading! Did you ever create a system like this at a restaurant?
