So my boyfriend at the time and I co-signed for a car. I was only on the title cause I had decent credit, I didn't use the car ever, except when he picked me up in it. We broke up and he moved to the other side of the country for work. He apparently opened a credit line with Credit First for around $1000 for repairs, and my name is on it as well, even though I had no knowledge of it untill after 3-4 months when I got some mail saying it had missed payments. I called them and told them that I never had anything to do with this account, nor did I consent to having any credit line opened with them. They told me to submit a police report, and they'll get it taken care of. I did, and sent it to them and within a week I saw it disappear from my credit report and never heard anything again.
That was 5 months ago. Now it's back on my report as a delinquent account and they are saying it is not fraud because I own the vehicle and benefitted from this. I am a co-owner on the vehicle, yes but I still never authorized any sort of credit line to be opened in my name. How is this not fraud? They repeatedly told me that I am responsible for paying this. What can I do? I do not have the ability to straight up pay this, nor should I because I did not open this line, authorize anything or sign anything. I never even knew they existed until this incident.
