Won $500 as a team ($100 a person) at a small Esports event. Company wants W-9s from everyone in order to receive payment, should I be okay with just giving them this information?

Hi,

So basically my team and I played and won a relatively small amount of money $500 ($100 each person) and the company/tournament organizer said they would send us the money through paypal after we emailed them each of our W-9 forms. The problem is I'm not very comfortable with emailing a document that includes my SSN and other personal information to anyone.

I've never had a job before and thus have never filed any type of taxes so I can't use an employer ID.

Should I be weary about this? Are they not able to just send us this money without needing these forms?
