Before and After: https://ift.tt/2HzTwoR about a day to buy materials, construct the framing and paint, and then a 3 or so hours to affix the planks the next day after the paint dried. Was able to complete it myself without too much effort.I started the project by removing the railing, and then running a snap line where it was to get a straight line across so I knew where my 2x4s should end to line up. After that, I attached a treated 2x4 to the post and the wall, and created a center post using a 4x4 post base into the porch and the header.Attaching to the brick wall and the porch required a hammer drill, which I had to go out and purchase (good excuse to get a new tool haha.) I clamped the 2x4 to the wall after leveling, pre-drilled with the hammer drill through the 2x4 and wall, and then followed up with the tapcon screw anchors. I believe there are 5 in that 2x4 going up the wall. The post was solid wood inside of the facing, so I just used long screws to affix the 2x4 on that side. For the base, it was just a long time of hammer drilling to allow for the large tapcon anchor bolt that was recommended. After that was affixed, I put the post in to finish the framing.I then cut the 1x6s to size, sanded down with 120 grit sandpaper, and painted them with Sherwin Williams Weathershield exterior paint. After it dried, I pre-drilled the holes and then started with the bottom plank. I leveled it out and attached to the center post with deck screws, and then to the 2x4 on each side. I then set two 1x6 scraps on top of the affixed plank as a spacer, set another plank on top of those, and made sure it was level again. Continued this pattern until I reached the top.On the other side of the wall, the same procedure was done but staggered so the wall cannot be seen through. It also hides the exterior grade extension cords that are ran for the TV and the lights. To finish up, I cut sections of the 1x6s to fit around the center post and frame it out to cover up the metal post bases and make it look a bit more finished. After that, my wife found the furniture she wanted and filled it out.Tools/materials used:- Hitachi 7.25 inch circular saw- Ryobi 18v .5 inch Hammer drill/driver- Dewalt orbital sander- Snap line- Ladder- 2 4x4 post bases- Exterior treated 2x4s- Exterior treated 1X6 planks- Level- Tapcon screw anchors- Deck screws via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2TLUJAe
