Partner and I moved into our current 900 sq ft apartment in Seattle six months ago and ever since move-in, our power bills have been bizarrely high. The last two 2-month billing cycles have been extraordinarily high - over $500. We suspected Seattle City Light might be misreading the meter, but we couldn't easily check because the meters aren't accessible to renters. We finally had the apartment manager check the meter reading today and it turns out the kWh usage counts by SCL are apparently accurate - in our last billing cycle, we were using an average of 75.3 kWh (!!!) a day. Googling for advice isn't helping, because it all says things like "replace your old appliances," and we obviously can't do that in a rental apartment. Furthermore, it's not like we have a ton of power-guzzling appliances. We don't even have an in-unit washing machine. It doesn't make any sense. Any advice? What could be causing this to happen? Have you ever been in a similar situation?
