Today is my 19th birthday. My girlfriend broke up with me last night (just more money for me to save haha) and I got my car tags renewed ($60 fuck).
But what made this birthday the best in a long time is that I now have a stable savings account. Management of my bills is no longer something that I have to get anxious about. Here’s what I did.
I bought a used car with cash. I was able to negotiate the price on it from $3100 to $3000. Not much, but $100 goes a long way. It runs great too! Acura RL 2002 with 180k mileage. No rust, but tuneups won’t hurt.
I stopped eating out, and began to cook my own food. Throw most of it in the freezer. Chicken, vegetables, rice etc. all cheap and lasts a LONG time. ALDI is my go to, it’s extremely cheap.
I spent most of my 18th year single, which gave me the opportunity to save money on gas, dining, and basically everything by a huge margin.
Most importantly, I don’t spend money on anything I don’t need. Once I receive my paycheck, I calculate how much I need for the week and the rest goes in savings. This is with a $10 wage job.
Staying at home has helped, and surprisingly, having a PS4 is great because it keeps me busy. If you game share (share accounts) with a friend, you can play each other’s games, and share the online network subscription. $60 games jus turned into $30.
I buy my clothes from thrift stores. I have gotten American Eagle jeans with tags still attached and nobody has ever noticed. Walmart is where my socks, and shoes come from.
TLDR: I stopped spending money i things I didn’t need, cooked my own food, stayed home more, and made saving a priority.
