Hello!I try to create molds for pouring low temperature metals, like tin or led. I’ve already experiences with diy plaster molds and of course, the normal metal molds you can buy.Now I try to step it up a notch to use 3d printed objects and create a re-usable mold with silicone. I could simply buy the 2 components from artisan crafts shop, but first I try to see if I can do it with standard silicone which I can buy around here. The standard 100% silicone used for sealing in kitchen and bathroom is not suitable, as it only goes to around 150° C, so we also have high temp silicone, which goes up to 350° C here, which would be perfect, the problem is that the viscosity is pretty low, I need to up it up to get all the details. There are thinning compounds* out there, a first search lead me to a YT vid about an attempt with lighter fluid, which left him with cracks. As the stuff evaporates, I guess the silicon is not able to bound the gaps created and thus leaves voids.Would it work with another additive? Or should I just forget about it and get the more expensive stuff right away? Maybe you guys have another idea how I could make reusable molds for detailed castings?Cheers 😊* This i found so far:https://www.smooth-on.com/products/silicone-thinner/ via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2TwMBU5
