I see very often that the greatest damage to boots, clothing, and obviously cars comes from rock salt and ice melting products. These products acceralate corrosion and breakdown just as much as they accelerate the melting process.

Oddly enough, Krown is the largest rust-prevention company in Canada but I never see their products reviewed or advertized anywhere.

Their claim to fame is T-40, the rust inhibitor. But they also sell a product (that they use in the shop) to pull salt out of things it bonds to.

Salt Eliminator; you can get it at any Krown Rust location. I use the stuff on my car interior, boots, coats; it's AWESOME. Spray on, soak, then brush/wipe. It eats salt. It's non toxic too, water-based with some non toxic additives. It chemically bonds to the salt to pull it out of whatever it sticks to.

An alternative; very hot water, and a lot of rinsing. Works good on articles where there's a LOT of caked on salt buildup. I'd use a carpet extractor or wetvac with hot water myself.

T40 cans and Salt Eliminator work wonders; I don't work for Krown or anything, I just love all their products. I never see them advertized, and they just work. I sprayed 3 of my wheel hubs (outside facing) on my car with T40 this winter in Ontario. Really wet, salty, slushy. Bad for rust. The 4th hub I didn't spray was coated with rust thinly in 2 weeks. It's been 3 months now, and the other 3 hubs are still clean. Virtually no rust, after soaking and salting and driving thousands of KMs. It works!
