I got a student loan in 2017 worth about $6500 and started making minimum payments on it at the beginning of 2018. I thought I was making progress but I've only gotten it down to about $6000 and it doesn't feel like progress. I've been working a minimum wage job since the beginning of 2018 and thinking, "I can't afford to make more than the minimum monthly payment," while going out and spending $15 a day on fast food (which I convinced myself was necessary) and spending a lot of money on Uber when I could be using public transportation. I spent my money on things that brought me temporary happiness and satisfaction.
I recently moved and transferred to a work location much closer to home and I've been spending a lot less money on transportation (especially Uber, down from $15-20 to $7-8, only use Uber when I really need to) and fast food is less accessible here, and what is accessible is cheaper. I've been feeling a lot better about myself.
Anyway, here we are today, I was tired of still seeing a balance of over 6000, noticed that I had a decent amount of money in my bank account that had nowhere to go, kept the money in my account that I know I'll need, and put down $1000 towards my loan! I didn't see myself paying off my loan for another couple of years but I haven't been spending money on useless junk recently and it's been paying off. Hoping to finally get rid of my only debt in just 7-8 months! This is definitely only the beginning of attacking my debt and I know I'll have a lot of work to do and to maintain. But it's a great feeling knowing that I'm gonna come out ahead, and you can too! Here's to those of us paying off debt like it's no tomorrow and almost having our head above water. I believe in you!!!
