Recently I have been saving quite a bit of cash on products I’m not in a hurry for.
- Find the product you want, shoes, dress, video game, desk, food blender etc
- Find your said product on an online store
- Create an account with the store. Edit: You'll probably want a dedicated email for this kind of thing.
- Log into your account and add the product to your basket and initiate the payment screen but, DO NOT PAY
- Close the tab and wait a couple of days – you could either start seeing adverts for the product you viewed with a discount code or have a discount emailed to you
This is not guaranteed to work every time however I personally have saved a couple £100 in the last few months by receiving discount this way. I have been dabbling in Facebook advertising for my side business in the last half a year or so – due to your Facebook Pixel tracking your almost every move on the internet, companies have the option to target customers who have visited their store, looked at x product, added to their basket, initiated the payment screen. Marketers see these people as their most likely candidates to buy so will push adverts towards them in order to pull the trigger.
Shop owners (mainly Shopify hosted stores) through their dashboard can also see a collective group of customers who have reached their basket and/or reached the payment screen through their customer database – once they have your email you appear in this list. They can now email all customers who have an ‘abandoned checkout’ – this being you. Quite a lot of the time they will email you a discount code to entice you to complete your purchase. I hope this helps some people!
