A few months ago I bought a car from my grandfather who lives in North Carolina. I was away at college so the car was dropped off at my parents house in Ohio with the signed title. My grandpa took the plates on the car with him as I will not be driving the car until April. The car has been sitting in my parents garage since then, unregistered and uninsured.
I recently noticed that the title says I need to get a new title in my name or pay a fine. I want to do this but it does not seem like the Michigan Secretary of State office will let you do it without insuring the car. To clarify, I only want to transfer the car title, NOT insure and register it. Is this even possible? The title was signed October of last year so I'm probably paying the fine, should I just wait until I insure the car?
Clarification: I live, work, and attend college in Michigan
