I think Uber, knowing users’ ride frequency and average trip cost has algorithms to sometimes apply automatic % off discounts when users have stored promo codes.

I usually never get targeted for Uber discount promos. In February I loaded three $5off promotion codes. A day later Uber automatically applied 30% off my next 10 rides. I was excited at first then realized most of my rides are never more than $10 so planned to wait for Uber’s promotion to end before my next ride. It’s been 6 weeks and Uber continues to extend the promotion, each time lowering the discount rate. The promotion is usually extended 1-2weeks at a lower discount 30%, then 20%, now 10%. Since promotions are applied in reverse chronological order two of my $5off discounts expired. Customer services stated there is no way to remove or opt out of these automatically applied promotions. This runs out the clock on users’ saved discount codes.

Takeaway: maybe don’t input your promotional codes until right before your trip? Or upload one code and sit on it a few days in hopes of getting Uber’s automatically applied discount?

Has anyone else experienced this?
