I recently have noticed this issue although it might have happened before and I just wouldn't notice.

I was in one large store for grocery shopping two times in the last weeks and noticed that the price is different in price tag and the final check out and when there is some changes the highest price still is applied in their systems.

One time, I found out after coming out of store and when brought it up to the customer service, they told that the prices change on a daily basis and I have mistaken. But later I exactly remembered the price of an item which seemingly had some discount, but at the check out it was accounted for in the original price and I had to go through customer service to return it.

I had similar experience in another large store again today and there was some discount price and then when I was in self check-out noticed, the accounted price is the original one which I found out early before payment and had to ask the store assistant to cancel it, but didn't provide me why it had happened. It is quite likely that if I was not in self check-out, I would not have noticed it either.

Now, it seems to me most of people don't care or maybe don't remember the prices and when see some discounted price tag, they might buy that item, but basically, they pay the original price. Although for more expensive items it is easy to see this difference, but for grocery shopping with lots of items it is unnoticeable and difficult to track and this is a part of their intentional false marketing.
