Let me first say that I'm incredibly embarrassed that both myself and my fiancé may have potentially fallen for this. At this point, we're just scared since we're just starting out and it seems like we've lost the race before it even began kind of thing.

Fiancé was contacted about 2 weeks ago by a recruiter for a work from home job as a international shipping intermediary for a company called "Shopper X LLC". She had recently been on an intense job hunt about a month prior so this did not seem strange considering the circumstances. No red flags raised. The job offered 42K a year. That would have meant a sizable pay increase for us but not a huge salary, so again no red flags raised. Fiancé applied and heard back about a week later that she had gotten the job. The initial application did not require vital personal details (social security number etc) so, no flags raised.

Even at this point we were both trying to remain very cautious as it seemed to good to be true. I looked up the company's name and found an article online that mentioned the company by name as well as some others (from what I remember, can't remember the exact details) that were breaking into this international shipping intermediary niche of the market. International buyers ship their purchases to an in country address in the US and the shipping agent repackages them into one package and then ships them to their final destination, theoretically saving the final buyer money in international shipping costs.

My fiancé asked for some sort of verification that the company was real and not in fact a scam and the person she spoke with seemed happy to provide a tax ID (for some reason I want to say the company was based in Florida but I'm not remembering how we figured this out). To be honest I'm not really sure how we could have verified with a tax ID, but again, it seemed legit. Especially since all this communication was done through an online employee portal of sorts (which we have screenshots of if you guys would like see them). Still no flags raised. However, now she has sent in her final paperwork (address that she will be working from, social security, etc.) just a few days ago and has heard nothing, which may not be concerning, as things take time. The concerning thing is that she has called multiple times, no answer, no call backs. She tried emailing them, email bounced back and said it didn't work. She called the recruiter who contacted her, no answer, no call backs. She can't get a hold of anyone! Now we're kind of freaking out. They could take out so much credit in her name, etc. etc.

We plan on calling a financial advisor or something at our banks to speak to someone and see if there is anything that can be done (put halts on opening any new lines of credit? Is that even possible?).

We're scared for the future, stressed out and mad at ourselves for taking the bait. Any help would be so very much appreciated.

We're in Texas if that matters.

Thank you in advance.
