Hi! I'm a bit new to this sub so sorry if this is somewhat off-topic.

I'm currently in high school in California and have been accepted to a university in New York. The estimated costs are around $72,000 a year. I have received $24,000 in financial aid.

I'm the only child of a single mom. We are lower-middle class. My mom is an incredibly frugal person and says she could pay at most $24,000 a year to help out.

My dad, on the other hand, has stated that he would not help support me financially. He's currently retired, and receiving pension from Taiwan (as he used to serve in the military there) as well as some revenue from rent (he owns a condo/townhouse in a nice neighborhood where rent is somewhat high). However, their pension has been cut by the government, so my dad says he is unable to support me. He currently gives me monthly allowances of $200, which I use to buy food, but has stated in the past that due to his pension cuts, he will decrease it to $100.

Also, not sure if this is relevant, but he also has 2 other children from another marriage, but they are both adults now (in their late 20s and 30s).

So my question is: aside from applying to scholarships, what else can I do to pay off as much of college as I can? How much can I earn from a part-time job in New York (the state)? What are some tips on saving as much money as I can in college? How do I appeal for more financial aid (since they use income/revenue from both parents regardless of marital status to calculate financial aid)?

I'm a sheltered first-gen in America, so all of this is so new and overwhelming to me. Any tips or advice is much appreciated! i reaaally don't wanna be >$100k in debt from student loans haha
