I’m currently trying to figure out the best way to pay my taxes, and with that, file a return.
I work for a private yacht currently spending about 270 days outside the United States traveling as crew. I get paid twice monthly in the form of a wire transfer from an offshore company through a NYC bank. Neither the boat nor the shell company used to pay me are based in the US.
I currently have no contract, no 1099 or W2, and no idea where to begin. My understanding is I need to pay my taxes quarterly to avoid fines, and I could possibly qualify as self employed.
I have a Florida driver’s license but live full-time on the boat I’m employed on, making residency nearly impossible to prove.
Where do I begin? Is this outside the scope of handling myself?
