So I would love to move out as soon as possible. Unfortunately, best case scenario that could be close to two years. Obviously that’s more than enough time to find a job (not a career but a way to at least live decently) and save up money.
So how should I prepare? I should state that having the personal freedom that comes with moving out is priceless to me. And a few things.
Entertainment-YouTube and Video Games (I have a decent sized collection and enjoy playing games over and over again) are already my main go to. Movies with friends/concerts are great but obviously a luxury (at least when you’re starting out.) I’ll be able to share my family’s Netflix/Hulu account. If not then I can deal with it.
I don’t really watch Cable TV instead I prefer streaming. So I guess internet would be a must for me.
Phone-I’d be on my family plan (my parents wouldn’t not let me have a way to contact them) and I’m fine using an older phone so long as I have data access.
Furniture-I plan on buying at least a bed while living with my parents. I’ll try and buy a cheap couch/some chairs as well.
Food-My family doesn’t really-we aren’t the meal planning type. All our meals our spontaneous but I’d love to learn how to actually cook. I don’t mind surviving off Ramen and Easy Mac, I’ve done it before when times where rough.
Transportation-I’d like to get a car but honestly I’d try and take the bus/walk as much as possible. I don’t mind being driven places but if it comes down to it I’d rather walk several miles then worry if I can afford gas, insurance and food.
Roommates-I’d love to have a good roommate(s) but I have reasons against it. For one, I’m moving out to avoid toxic people. Moving in with someone who might be is too much of a risk. A friend seems appealing but that doesn’t mean we’d get along living together. Yes I understand this is more expensive, but it’s a necessity for me.
Moving-Aside from the potential furniture my belongings could fit in a car. That being said I understand I should plan that out as soon as possible of course.
General supplies-Things I might need that might not seem obvious.
Bills-Grocery, Light, etc how much should I expect?
The rent at this place is around $700-800. Depending on room count. I know it’s a decent place. But should I buy anything in specific to keep myself safe?
This is just the general info I have so far. Help making alterations would be appreciated. Thank you.
Edit:This part isn’t financial related but is moving related. How do you approach parents about moving out? Especially the overly sheltering types? I’d imagine having a few months rent in advance should be a good bargaining chip (so I can show I’m capable of making money)
