Wife is now 36 weeks. Baby will be here in a month. Or less.
My wife made an effort to pay everything off that she had left open and succeeded. So she had no more outstanding debts. She's the one that makes most of our income. I'm a student and work part time for minimum wage. Here's where we're at with our income:
-
Wife is currently on maternity leave and paid weekly by government funding. Between 450-500€ each week. Before maternity leave she made 2500-3000€ monthly.
-
I get 600€ from the government for being a student.
-
I get 100-150€ weekly for working part time.
Recently my wife's employer fucked their medical system and that resulted in the government sending my wife 1000€. She didn't have a right for that money. Her employer simply forgot to tell the government that she was working again.
Our current, combined debts and expenses are:
-
1000€ back to the government from wife
-
340€ + 125€ monthly for car and insurance
-
120€ + 120€ for both of our health insurances
-
30€ + 50€ for both our phone subscriptions
-
3000€ in debt for insurance/motor tickets from me
-
1000€ in debt for not paying my health insurance for over a year from me
I currently pay 350€ + 100€ a month towards those last two debts. Last month my wife had to pay 500€ for me because I couldn't keep up.
We were doing alright but now that wife has to pay 1000€ and we're still renovating our home for when the baby arrives, it's going to get really hard. I've not taken into account our expensives for food, or for the renovating (mainly because my wife pays for all this and I don't know the numbers).
I don't want to feel like a burden to her financially but on the other hand I also bring nothing to the table financially and have to loan money from her quite a lot. (Even if it's just 10€ to get lunch that day). Now that she's also struggling with this new debt I really want to know what we can do differently or maybe better to make sure we don't get in debt even more.
The rest of our expenses are estimates:
-
70€ a week in shopping (food, drinks)
-
50€ a week in tools (renovating is almost done so this will soon fall off)
-
€30 a week for petrol
-
€250 a month still going to savings (we might need to stop this for a few months)
-
Between €100 and €250 in expenses for newborn a month (we're slowly getting everything together and almost have everything ready, but still need several things)
We're also still awaiting a bill for wall renovations we had done last month. The walls we're destroyed in certain places and only an expert was able to fix this. It's expected to be €500.
We don't pay rent or electric/water bills.
Sorry for the long post, if there's any tips you could give us we'd really appreciate it. We're in quite the pickle.
