I feel like most investing advice threads pertain to recurring newbie themes, which is great to get new investors caught up to FAQ/table stakes guidance to avoid obvious misses, and get returns to levels around the market baseline.

However, I'm sure a number of you who have been investing for a good number of years, have recognized and refined your tactics to exploit particulars about your situation, which worked to allow you to improve your returns. The inherent trouble with specialized strategies is that unlike popular "free lunch" practices like diversification, they don't "just work" for everyone, and can be a distraction to bring up in context of beginner threads.

So, please share your time-tested gems, including being forthright about limitations:

1-What specific tools/techniques do you swear by as most significant to improve performance/reduce risk?

2-Why does it fit your needs, as a refinement over common practices?

3-How was it a game changer for you, vs before you adopted?

4-But, why isn't it a universal practice? What are the barriers or restrictions(e.g. complexity/expertise, accreditation, minimum assets, tax situation, etc) which prevent it from being more common?
