I made a list of things to remember to consider before spending, or to prevent spending. For example, I bought a bunch of bulk pasta and needed a container to store it in. I checked the very top shelf where my 'other' food containers are and found two large ones that fit the pasta perfectly. I might still buy a nice glass one from a thrift store (only $10 anyway so still reasonable) but now I have time to find something I like, instead of going out and buying a mediocre one because I 'need' it. And if course that's only one thing, but altogether they're keeping me in that frame of mind, to consider solutions and be proactive instead of buying to solve a problem. Here is my list, feel free to share yours too! --call my utilities, look online for competitors, so around, ask for discounts --swap before shopping (I live in Toronto, where Bunz is big for swapping things with other people) --shop my closet, reuse/rediscover things I already have --shop out of season --take free active transportation where possible --make it before shopping, or if not, buy used" --stay organized so I can keep track of my things (and don't buy more/duplicates without realizing it) --take care of my things, so they don't get wrecked and need to be replaced
