Hey DIYers. I'm about to undertake the project of finishing our stairwell that leads to the basement. It was part of an addition to the house in the early 80's and hasn't been touched since. I'm trying to figure out the best way to smooth down or perhaps cover these concrete walls? Here's a few pictures of what I'm working with. The rough texture has lead to many scraped arms and pulled clothing. My first thought was to try these diamond polishing pads and use my hand sander. Would that work? If so, I'd try to get it smooth as possible then paint over it.Alternatively, my wife threw out the idea of just covering the walls with shiplap planks (because of course). However, I'm afraid that the awkward, uneven surface would still require sanding. Also, I have no idea how to actually adhere planks to the wall. Liquid nails?Any advice or other suggestions would be appreciated. I am really not looking forward to this project. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2SjzlNF
