I realize it’s not going to be cheap, but I was wondering if the frugal community had any tips on the best way to move cross country (Boston to Nevada, roughly a one bedroom apartment worth of stuff). Namely, a cost effective moving company that treated your stuff with care. I’m worried to go too cheap and risk my items being damaged by careless college kids, but I don’t know what companies are reputable.
I am assuming a UHaul wouldn’t be worth it, given the size of truck I would need, the gas cost, and the inconvenience of needing to park it when I stop. I also need to drive my own car there, but that’s another story.
I will be doing all the packing myself, searching Craigslist for people giving away boxes, etc. I’ve heard that if I say there’s no rush on getting my stuff there that cuts down the cost a bit.
I’ve heard the cost of PODS and other similar services isn’t worth it, even if you do pack it yourself.
