Ok so. Few days ago, my sink clogged. I suspect a large quantity of good was dumped into the disposal all at once instead of letting the water run while slowly dumping it in.
I Drano'd, I plunged, I poured in vinegar and baking soda, boiling water... Nothing. Thing was clogged good and tight.
I disassembled my plumbing under the sink to see what I could see. The clog was definitely in the wall somewhere. Normally this is where you call a plumber.
However, most hardware stores that rent tools keep some industrial, motorized drain snakes with different cutting attachments on them. Exact same tool that a plumber uses.
Roto Rooter quoted me $350 for just the snake, didn't include a possible rebuild of the plumbing.
I rented a 75ft snake for $57. Paid another $30 to buy new plumbing for under the sink. Drain works normally again.
TL; DR: renting tools is a loooot cheaper than hiring a plumber is.
