My wife and I (Australia) have just found out we are expecting a baby this year! Needless to say that this really pushed me to close some of the debt we had in order to save in the next few months.
Today we paid off a $12k (AUD) car loan debt in one hit that we had been saving for for at least a year whilst simultaneously saving for our small $12k wedding last August ! TALK ABOUT RELIEF! It felt so sad yet so good to watch that money fly out of our bank account knowing we didn’t have to spend another cent on it and that we can put all that money we were saving for our car loan towards our child
Now she has $100 left on a credit card and I have $1000 left and we will be debt free!
Using advice from this reddit as well as a book we have both read we have really been able to get our finances right and manage to save about $700 a fortnight to put towards debt or savings etc
Thanks to all the advice I’ve received without you guys even knowing you were giving it !
Any suggestions preparing to be a father for the first time ? Any hidden costs or anything to be aware of ? We both work part time (45 hours a fortnight) whilst I study to become a paramedic and she a lawyer
