Throwaway because my ex knows my username. Made the mistake of getting married to someone who had a significant amount of debt and didn't handle it properly.

When we filed married jointly in 2017 we owed $2400 in fed taxes. I set up a monthly payment plan that came out of my bank account. Husband and I split up in July and as part of the divorce agreement I said I would pay the rest of the taxes as a) they were coming out of my account anyway and b) I didn't trust him to do it.

In November he filed for bankruptcy and included the taxes on his list o' debts, however he noted that he owed $0 toward them according to court documents that I accessed. This filing, however, disrupted the autodebit from my account so I went to the IRS website and paid manually once I was able to figure out what was going on.

His debt was discharged in February but I know that it doesn't wipe out taxes. However, I filed for 2018 taxes as head of household and today got my full refund -- I assumed the refund would have gone toward the owed taxes from 2017 but it didn't.

Do I need to just turn around and dump this refund manually back to the IRS, or am I supposed to keep making payments? I don't want to get into some sort of trouble for receiving money that I shouldn't have, if I wasn't supposed to.

Thanks for any suggestions anyone can give me!
