I posted this in r/tax but wanted to post it here as well to hopefully get a quicker response.
I filed my taxes through TurboTax and got them fully accepted back in January. I received my federal return and have a scheduled payment for the state taxes I owe. However, i received a 1098-T about a week after filing my tax returns. I have been waiting on TT to release the 1040x so I can amend it but they've changed the date 3 times now for the form so I have decided to file it by hand. I downloaded the 1040x and the instructions and am wondering what exactly I need to do. Everything is exactly the same as the 1040 I filed through TurboTax but I just need to add my 1098-T.
Do I just need to fill out the basic info (personal info, filing status), explain I need to add the 1098-T in the explanation section, and then send the 1040x, original 1040, and the 1098-T to the IRS? I'm unsure if I need to change or put down anything in lines 1 to 30 since all my income, deductions, and exemptions are the same as before I am just adding the 1098-T tuition costs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
