I know the general rule of thumb is always comb over your CC statements every month. With that being said, if you are a frequent Uber rider like myself, pay extra attention to their charges. Three times in the last few months I've caught random charges on days when I never even used Uber. It's not like I requested a ride and then cancelled but the charge stuck. It's literally a significant charge (over $20) for a day I never even used their service.
Today, I found a charge for $37 on my statement for 2/8. I checked the app and saw that the last time I used their service was 1/31. I filled a claim, and they responded by saying that the charge was for Uber Eats. I checked Uber Eats, and I did use it on 2/7. However, I used UberCash (rewards I had saved up) for the transaction, and the charge was for $32, not $37.
Also, all three times when I've filed a claim with them, they say that they will rectify the situation and return the money to my credit card. However, this never happens. I get my money back by filing a claim with my credit card, but if I didn't pay attention to my account, then I would possibly consider the matter closed thinking that they reversed the charge and I would never get my money back.
I honestly don't know if something is wrong with their system or if they are doing something sketchy. I have a feeling that most people don't realize they have extra charges and they never say anything. This is only the three times I've caught this problem in the last few months while combing over expenses for work expense reports. I cringe at the idea that there have been other charges in the past that I never noticed.
Has anyone had similar issues?
