I need a power strip / surge protector that will help reduce electronic hum/buzz/noise coming from speakers. I've been told that a $10 power strip is fine. I was looking into a $160 Furman digital 8 but a friend of mine insists that it won't do any better than a simple hardware store power strip and that the higher priced power strips that claim to condition power are simply capitalizing on people's ignorance as to how electricity works and fear of ruining equipment without proper protection.
I have expensive speakers I want to protect from surges and I also want the cleanest sound for recording purposes. Because I want to a clean sound (no hum/buzz) I am thinking I do need a power conditioner but not if it's a bs marketing ploy. I don't want to be stupid and possibly ruin good equipment because I got an inexpensive power strip but I don't want to be stupid and spend $160 for something that might be a lot of hype.
Any ideas?
