Hello,Advice needed for installing overhead storage rack (600 lbs capacity) in finished drywall ground floor garage with engineered joists. Above it is a covered patio balcony that isn't used much.Mfr instructions require installing 4 wooden ceiling joists perpendicular between the engineered ceiling joists. The added wooden ceiling joists will serve as the mounting points for the rack. I do not want to open up 4 large spots in the drywall and instead want to do this:Attach 2x6-es using Spax Powerlags with built in washer head (no pre-drill) spanning multiple engineered joists for the length of the rack (4’ x6’).Attach the rack to the 2x6-es using the provided lag bolts.I think the attachment points of the 2X6 to the multiple ceiling joists would provide enough weight distribution strength along the length of the rack. I wouldn’t have to open up the drywall and I could also paint the 2X6-es to match the finished ceiling. Another benefit is I could mount the racks at any points along the ceiling and mount other items to the 2x6 like a hook to hang a bike.I don’t anticipate loading 600 lbs on the rack but would it hold that much installing it with my method? Thoughts and advice appreciated.Andrew via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2tnZrFn
