Here is a background, I'm 28 year old making roughly $40,000. Last year, I made a goal to get out of credit card debt. Since then, I have worked to get that done and as of this morning I have done it! Last year my credit score was in the high 500's and this morning ( prior to the final portion of debt being paid off ), it's at a mid-700.

I also have a used car that has roughly $3,000 left until I own and about $40,000 in student debt. I match my 401k at work but don't have my own savings. Where should I go from here?

After bills, I have about $1,500 left over to spend. I want to be able to save, make investments but I don't know where to start. I've heard about IRA Roth's, I've been told to invest in mutual funds....but how so should I look at that when I have student loans looming soon.
