My wife works a second job as an employee. She was just handed a W9 form to fill out. She was supposed to be an employee. The owner of the second job informed her that the previous accountant never took out the taxes and her new accountant said to fill out the W9. She was given hand written checks. We didn’t know any of this.
I told her not to sign the W9 as she is not supposed to be an independent contractor.
What are her options? Is she screwed?
