The last few years I have had a person with their own small company do my taxes for me. She always gets me a great return, around $4000 (my wife and I file jointly and are both in school). I moved recently and her office is now about 70 miles one way. I decided I could probably do my taxes myself since all I have for income are W2s and my school info. I used H&R blocks software and my return came out to about $1200. I'm wondering if this is due to the software? I also read an article from NPR saying returns are lower this year due to changes in the tax law. I'm just worried I'm going to drive all the way to her office to find I would get the same return.
