I have $10K of 4% student loans and no other debt to my name. I know that's not a lot compared to other graduates, but I went the cheap route and did my first couple years in community college. I now have a well paying job in my field and can afford to pay $1,200 a month towards my student loans after covering all my expenses, having a bit of fun money, and putting 15% away to retirement. Prior to making a serious budget at the start of this year, my money just kind of disappeared every month and I accepted I would have those student loans for at least the next decade. Now, I have a crystal clear picture of my finances and realize I can dedicate $1,200 a month towards those loans.

I received 3 paychecks in January, and I put the 3rd one entirely against the loans. When I get my tax refund, I will put it entirely to them. My birthday is in August, and my goal is to be debt free by then. After the last student loan is paid off, I'm going to take my GF to the finest restaurant in the city, and I'm so looking forward to that meal. Budgets really do help people.
