Old Wall PatchI recently moved into a house built in the ‘60s, where not much has changed since the original design of the house. Including the bright orange walls in the bedroom. So, in my attempt to redo the bedroom, I’ve run into a problem. I can paint like there’s no tomorrow, but this old wall patch has me stumped. I had to decide whether to cut a hole in the wall and replace the piece of drywall completely, but I think I’d be in over my head with that one. It’s in a far corner of the bedroom so I opted for an easier fix. You can’t really tell from the photos, but it’s about a square foot in size. I don’t know what’s under the patch. It sticks out from the wall and can’t be sanded down.I am going to get some drywall mud and smooth it over the entire patch. Yes, it won’t be flush with the wall, but it shouldn’t be noticeable. If you look closely though, the walls are textured. Through my research, I’m seeing there are different types of drywall muds. Premixed and powders that you add water to. For those of you with more experience than me, would you choose topping compound for this? Premixed or powder? What would you use to try and match the texture with the rest of the wall? via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2HTSB4y
