The opening to the attic above my second story is 22.5"x36". Because of the way the home wiring and AC ductwork is run around that opening, making it longer (to the 54" standard) just isn't feasible. But, all the 'ready-to-install' attic stairs I can find for a 22.5"x36" opening (Rainbow and others) cost $800-1000 before installation.So, I'm considering making custom attic stairs for this opening myself.
