All,
Taking a risk here - I did a couple searches on r/stocks and here to see if the author I'm asking about (Jason Kelly) and some specifics of his book were covered here. They weren't and this isn't really a news item, or an advice request - just looking for clarification on some things he outlines in his book - The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Investing.
Midbook he describes ways to both double returns on funds that track the DJIA, and more, specifically referring to a strategy called "Maximum Midcap". No matter how many times I read it, it's like 5 pages of him saying to put money into MVV or UMPIX adding a little each month - no fancy daily rebalancing concerns, just "buy this, PROFIT". I'm pretty stupid, so I figure I'm missing something here. Anyone familiar enough with this book to sort me out?
My 2nd concern is after ripping through the book and overflowing with confidence about my ability to use screeners to find Growth/Value stocks with appropriate P/E ratios and RPS numbers to justify building individual portfolios, I've found that I am totally paralyzed when it comes to populating the screeners on my own. The book doesn't suggest what values might suit my preferences (understandably) and I am intimidated and overwhelmed by the saved screeners at Finviz and find myself confused and incapable of building my own at yahoo. I already know I'm a dumbass but at least I know better than puppy-dogging forums asking "what stock should I buy?"... I guess this question is - are there any definitive youtube vids, archived/sticky threads, books that do a *better* job in helping a total novice put together a screener that can at least get me started? Does anyone have an opinion on the pre-created screeners at the various screensites - or a recommendation for a subscription service that has common, effective screener templates?
I'm pushing 50, have meager savings and no home equity, I won't make a million bucks, I know, but over the next 10 years I can drop about 15k/yr in an investment account and I'm trying to turn that into as much as possible to cut down on my time as a people greeter at Walmart.
